PostHeaderIcon Halloween Scrapbooking Idea

Here are some thoughts for a Halloween Scrapbooking Idea:

There are only a couple of times each year that I go all out decorating my house inside and out: One is Christmas – the other is Halloween! In fact, I think I get more fun out of Halloween decorating. It takes me back to when I was a kid and I get to enjoy the season like a kid again. I love the smell of dry leaves and fires, fresh apples from the tree and the excitement of seeing all the little kiddies dressed up for Trick or Treat. All of this puts me in the Halloween Spirit!

Do you have favorite decorations for this Spooky Season? I buy something new every year and the Haunting of my House grows and grows. I also collect vintage decorations which I like to share with everyone. Consider taking lots of pictures and doing layouts of your decorating for each year. Document the newest additions to your collection. Watch how your ideas evolve and change each season, and how you find new ways to display your Halloween stuff. Spread your Halloween legacy. Your kids and grandkids will never grow tired of looking at them as time passes. Some of these fantastic decorations can be passed down from generation to generation too, along with your Scrapbook.

Sooooh…be a kid again this year and make sure you document every Spooky Minute!

PostHeaderIcon Thanksgiving Scrapbooking Idea

Nothing inspires creativity more than the bold colors of Autumn! Thanksgiving is such an important time of the year and scrapbooking these themes can get a bit redundant.  I came up with a great idea for combining the two with a new take on it.

  • choose scrapbooking paper in fall colors
  • draw or paint an autumn tree trunk and branches such as the one shown here
  • cut out different colors, types and sizes of leaves using scrapbooking or craft paper
  • add photos of your family – one to each leaf
  • add your Thanksgiving dinner menu to a leaf too!
  • attach the leaves to your tree branches with ribbons or other materials in complimentary colors
  • journal your date, Thanksgiving activities, special guests or anything else – including some of the things you are most thankful for this year

This makes a wonderful layout for the season – something a little different.

Cheers and Happy Scrapbooking!

PostHeaderIcon Scrapbooking Saint Patrick’s Day

This is the Season of Green!

If you’re Irish this is the perfect time to scrapbook some of your Irish heritage along with the photos of your present day celebrations.  You may not be Irish nor have anything you want to scrapbook about that suits this happy season, however, Saint Patrick’s Day is also about things like:  Good Luck and Fortune (like the Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow) – the reward for all your hard work!  Now that’s something everyone has a story about.  Here are a few ideas for this Irish theme that you might want to try:

  • Scrapbook a story of something good that’s happened to you recently (with a Saint Patrick’s Day color theme)
  • List the things about your life that make you feel lucky or fortunate – let’s call it your Pot of Gold – using a Saint Patrick’s Day paper and embellishments
  • Using the theme of  “Lucky Charms”, tell a story and give examples of how you invoke your quirky little rituals to create the outcomes you desire.  You don’t have to be Irish to be superstitious!

Have fun with this!

PostHeaderIcon Valentine Scrapbooking Idea

Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by giving flowers, gifts, chocolate and cards (Valentines). St. Valentines Day’s association with love has existed since the 14th century.

Scrapbookers “love” to record all their holidays and special times – and Valentine’s Day is no exception.

Want to do something a little different? Find a real authentic, unposed photo of you and your true love (your wedding?).

Pair with some meaningful lyrics from a love song that evokes emotion for you. Embellish with roses or chocolate and voila – you ‘ve created a beautiful Valentine layout for your scrapbook.

This idea can also be used for creating a lovely handmade card for the love of your life!

You will love this trendy new scrapbooking idea: I like to use Paper Doilies – they are so versatile!

Available in (white or foil) these little gems can be used as frames for your photos or just as an interesting background element to any layout. They come in all shapes and sizes and you use them as is, or spray paint them to match your scrapbooking layout color scheme. They are so inexpensive – you can buy at any baking supply store or craft shop. They create a wonderful 3D effect. And let’s not forget they are also great for Cardmaking. I love them! PostHeaderIcon Thanksgiving Scrapbooking Ideas

Are you looking for new Thanksgiving Scrapbooking Ideas? I think one of the nicest ways to Scrapbook Thanksgiving is to simply create a Thanksgiving Layout showing all the things you are personally thankful for. It can combine humorous sentiments (eg. Mom’s cooking, or my Girlfriend Get Togethers and a glass of wine) along with the more serious side of being thankful – family, friends, home, good jobs, good health, etc. For each of us being thankful is a different experience, brought on by our unique circumstances. Use pictures if you have them – but if not just fill your page with larger than life phrases and words to express your list of things you are thankful for, along with tons of Thanksgiving embellishments. This can be a very creative exercise. Have fun making your list using different textures, fabrics or paper – the sky’s the limit.

Another great idea for your Thanksgiving Scrapbook Layout is to scrapbook your favorite holiday recipes and add photos of your table settings too – especially if you like to go all out like me!

PostHeaderIcon Halloween Scrapbooking Idea

Looking for something a little different for your Halloween layouts, without breaking the bank?   This idea will work for any type of layout and for any season as well…as you will soon see!  Use cookie cutters to create your journal templates or even create backgrounds and frames for your photos – make them out of colored card stock or any patterned paper that might fit the bill.  They are cheap to buy and are available in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes – easy to fit to any sized space you have.    They are so versatile and don’t require a die cutting machine!  Also, they can be used over and over again.

These great little tools are available for all occasions including Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving or any other special season or theme, and the best part is that they can be purchased almost anywhere – including Dollar Stores.

I love this idea, don’t you?

Cheers and Happy Scrapbooking,

PostHeaderIcon Scrapbook a Puzzle

Tired of the same old photo techniques?  I love this tool…not the latest, greatest…but a favorite of mine nevertheless.   It never fails to pack a punch – no pun intended.  There are numerous versions of this tool…such as the die cut for a multi-purpose machine like the one below:

This die is designed for use only with the Big Shot Pro Machine for those of you who don’t mind a larger up front investment in your tools for a long term gain.

The puzzle pattern is just one of many available.

Scrapbook stores carry smaller more economical versions, but the idea is the same.  Make sure you don’t use original photos – but copies.  Cut your photos and then have some fun putting the puzzle pieces back together.  Use a bright colored mat behind the pieces and leave some spaces between them to make the photo pieces pop.

You can also cut up your photographs randomly using your own shapes – which doesn’t cost a dime.  Then put them back together emphasizing the pieces.  Lots of ways to use this idea – it never disappoints!

Cheers and Happy Scrapbooking!

PostHeaderIcon Hidden Journal Pockets for Scrapbooking

Do you ever have just too many photos and embellishments to allow for  proper journaling?  I often get carried away with my design and elements and end up squeezing a shortened version of my story into a small space.  Sometimes it doesn’t look right and that is because I’ve not designed my page with it in mind in the first place.

Here’s an idea for creating hidden space for your journaling.

I love this technique because it can be adapted to fit into any layout.  The method is simple.

  • Create a space behind one of your photos by gluing only the outside edges of the photo onto the layout leaving one end open.
  • Prepare a journal card from cardstock with the story handwritten or typed onto it (slightly smaller than the photo) so that it will fit behind
  • Add a tab or ribbon for pulling it out from behind the photo – or leave it stuffed halfway in so that it’s not completely hidden from sight.

There are so many ways to use this idea and at least as many materials for decorating the journal cards and tabs.  I hope you’ll try it!

Cheers and Happy Scrapbooking
