Use Paint in Scrapbooking
Remember, you don’t have to be an artist to use paint on your layouts. Here are a few ways to use paint effectively without much effort.
• I like to paint specific areas of my rubber stamps to lend some punch and to create an effect which resembles 3D.
• Another way to spruce up your stamping is to brush on a solid colour to the outline of the design and the main strokes – then stamp. Now actually paint inside the lines, just like you would in a colouring book – only use a multitude of colours. This adds such a beautiful touch to any layout. It gives the effect of being a watercolour painting you have done freehand, but of course it is so much more fail safe!
• Sometimes there are specific words or special thoughts in your Journaling or even Titles that you would like to stand out from the rest. Don’t be afraid to paint a soft colour over key words to highlight your thoughts - it’s so effective!
• Try painting just the edges of your crushed vellum or torn paper, or how about painting the edges of fabric that you might glue onto your layouts to create a weathered look. I would use a darker colour to give it dimension.
There are many ways you could use paint – your imagination is all that can limit you. Experiment a bit. You will be surprised at how much difference a swash of colour in an unexpected place can make to the overall impact of your layouts.
Always use acid free paint. Acrylic paint works very well because it is acid-free, water based and dries quickly. It covers well and is very forgiving – just add a little water and try again so that your mistakes will not show.
Now get going and do something a little different!
