Highlight Your Photos
Did you ever wonder how you could highlight your photos or images by drawing attention to a particular area of the photo to make a subject stand out more?
Technique 1:
Cover the area you wish to highlight with a small transparent frame. The eye is immediately drawn to that spot. There are many sizes, colours, shapes and types of small frames that could be used including metallic, paper or other material.
Technique 2:
• Scan your photo (if you want to keep the original untouched)
• Print it twice – one in full colour, and one in black and white (convert your colour image to black and white using Photoshop or other photo software.
• Affix the black and white photo to your layout.
• Select the area you want to draw attention to
• Cut that precise area out of your colour copy of the photo
• Attach over the same area on the black and white copy using foam mount tape to give it another dimension
The result is amazing and you have highlited the element of your picture you want to be noticed the most! This technique can be used in so many ways.
Technique 3:
To give prominence to your most important photos in a layout, try using a double mat using two colours.
• Create a mat using white cardstock around your photo
• Then use a slightly larger frame of cardstock in another colour
This makes the photo pop out and lends more importance to it. See an example.
