Did U Know?
Did U Know that scrapbooking is a not a new idea? Scrapbooking has been practiced since the 1700s. Though it was not then known as “scrapbooking”, the practice of collecting and keeping paper objects and mementos in some form or another has been going on for a very long time. Anything and everything made of paper that represented a memory or piece of family history was preserved for posterity or future reference, by keeping in a book or album of some sort. Adults and children alike have been attracted to this hobby. Scrapbooking was a popular Victorian pastime. During the dawning of the industrial age, work was made easier and there was more time and money to be invested into favourite pastimes, such as scrapbooking. The long hours of quiet and creativity were no longer reserved for the wealthy alone. Scrapbooks of the past often resembled a form of diary of a person's life, and included thoughts and ideas (much like our modern journalling) as well as mementos of life's day to day experiences. The memory books created during these times (sometimes works of art) have become invaluable windows into our history.

And now, scrapbooking has again come into fashion - with a vengeance. The difference is mainly in the materials we use which have been perfected so as to ensure long life with little or no deterioration. The methods are more sophisticated and creative of course! But the idea of "saving" our memories and passing down the details of our history is not new, and will most assuredly continue to be a part of our human nature.
